This may have been done with a view to reserving the domain name for future development, and to protect against the possibility of cybersquatting. Since the domain name registrar will have set name servers for the domain, the registrar or reseller potentially has use of the domain rather than the final registrant.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Domain parking can be classified as monetized and non-monetized. In the former, advertisements are shown to visitors and the domain is 'monetized'. In the latter, an "Under Construction" or a "Coming Soon" message may or may not be put up on the domain by the registrar or reseller. This is a single-page website that people see when they type the domain name or follow a link in a web browser. Domain names can be parked before a web site is ready for launching.&lt;br /&gt;Parked domain monetization&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Domain parking may also refer to an advertising practice, more precisely called parked domain monetization [1], used primarily by domain name registrars and internet advertising publishers to monetize type-in traffic visiting a parked or "under-developed" domain name. The domain name will usually resolve to a web page containing advertising listings and links. These links will be targeted to the predicted interests of the visitor and may change dynamically based on the results that visitors click on. Usually the domain holder is paid based on how many links have been visited (e.g. pay per click) and on how beneficial those visits have been. The keywords for any given domain name provide clues as to the intent of the visitor before arriving.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another use of domain parking is to be a placeholder for an existing web site. The domain holder might also choose to redirect a domain to another website it has registered, either through URL redirection, domain cloaking or by pointing it as an alias of the main domain, although if this is done by the ultimate registrant, the domain is then in use, rather than parked.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Expired domains that were formerly websites are also sought after for parked domain monetization. A domain that was used as a website and is allowed to expire will still maintain most of its prior inbound links. These types of domains usually attract their largest amount of visitor traffic initially after being claimed from the domain drop lists. As website operators and search engines begin to remove the former inbound links, the traffic to the parked domain will begin to decline. The process of re-registering expired names is known as dropcatching and various domain name registries have differing views on it. [2]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On domains with a 'one-click' implementation, a click on a keyword is not necessary to generate ads. The ads are targeted based on the domain name. Domains with 'two-click' implementations require a click on a keyword or a keyword search to generate ads.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are several companies that actively cater to domain name holders and act as middlemen to serve advertisements on parking pages. The parking pages are propagated automatically on a domain holder's web property when they either change the name servers or forward the URL.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Domaineering&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Domaineering is the web-based marketing business of acquiring and monetizing Internet domain names focusing on their use specifically as an advertising medium rather than primarily speculating on domains as intellectual property investments for resale as in domaining where generating advertising revenue is considered more of a bonus while awaiting a sale. In essence, the domain names function as virtual Internet billboards with generic domain names being highly valued for their revenue generating potential derived from attracting Internet traffic hits from natural type-in address bar searches. Revenue is earned as potential customers view pay per click ( PPC ) ads or the Internet traffic attracted may be redirected to another website. Hence, the domain name itself is the revenue generating asset conveying information beyond just functioning as a typical web address. As the value here is intrinsically in the domain name as an information carrying vehicle and not in a website's products or services, these domains are developed for advertising, ( i.e, "parked" ), and not into "conventional" websites. As with traditional advertising, domaineering is part art and part science. Often to be the most effective as an advertising tool, the domain names and their corresponding landing pages must be engineered or optimized to produce maximum revenue which may require considerable skill and keen knowledge of search engine optimization ( SEO ) practices, marketing psychology and an understanding of the target market audience, including demographics. Domaineering generally utilizes a firm offering domain parking services to provide the sponsored "ad feed" of a word or phrase searched for thus creating a mini-directory populated largely by advertisers paying to promote their products and services under a relevant generic keyword domain often found through direct navigation. Occasionally content is added to develop a functional mini-website. Ethical domaineers contend that their product, i.e., "domain advertising", is a bona fide offering of goods or services in and of itself which provides rights to and legitimate interests in the generic domains they use. This serves as a rebuttal or defense in addressing occasional spurious accusations of cybersquatting on trademarks. Domaineers and some of those who advertise online using generic keywords believe domaineering provides a useful, legal and legitimate Internet marketing service while opponents of domaineering decry the practice as increasing the ubiquitous commercialization of the world wide web. Domaineering aka "domain advertising" is practiced by both large organizations which may have registered hundreds or even thousands of domains to individual entrepreneurial minded domaineers who may only own one or a few. The earliest known verifiable identification and defining of domaineering as a distinct Internet advertising practice is attributed to Canadian Professor William Lorenz&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;DomainDomain parking is an extremely inexpensive way to secure a domaindomaindomain for later development, redirection of Web traffic, or re-sale. DomainDomainDomain registrants, or sellers, commonly offer domaindomaindomain parking free with domain registration, as there is virtually no cost involved with domaindomaindomain parking.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A parked domaindomaindomain includes one simple page. If the site is intended for development, the page will indicate it is under construction or coming soon. DomainDomainDomain parking can be renewed annually, and there is no deadline as to when a site need be developed. You might find you don’t have time, or you might decide to let the domaindomaindomain expire at the end of the contract, typically one year. In this case, the only investment lost is a few dollars.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you decide to develop your domaindomaindomain, you will need to pay for hosting services at that point. The right hosting service will provide enough space for your website and any special scripts or services you require. Once the domaindomaindomain is being hosted, it is no longer parked.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you already have a successful site, another use of domaindomaindomain parking is to secure addresses similar to your main website and redirect traffic there - an inexpensive way to protect your website. For example, wiseGEEK.net redirects traffic to the proper site, wiseGEEK.com. The first domaindomaindomain is parked. The parked domaindomaindomain need not reside on the same host server as the main website.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some people use domaindomaindomain parking for the sole purpose of ‘re-selling’ the address - transferring ownership to a buyer for a fee. This occurred more in the early days of the Internet, when major companies had yet to arrive and were willing to pay a high price for their trademark names. Laws were eventually enacted to protect trademarks, but a parked page can still advertise the sale of a domaindomaindomain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If interested in domaindomaindomain parking, keep in mind a few considerations. Most domaindomaindomain registrants offer hosting services, but you may or may not want the domaindomaindomain seller to host the domaindomaindomain once it is no longer parked. Be sure to check that the domaindomaindomain seller does not retain any rights to the domaindomaindomain. The buyer should have the power to control the domaindomaindomain’s registration information, and most importantly, the ability to transfer the domaindomaindomain to an independent hosting service when and if desired. Check to see whether a fee is associated with transferring the domaindomaindomain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;DomainDomainDomain registration once cost over 60 US Dollars (USD) per year, but today a domaindomaindomain can be had for as little as 5.99 USD annually or less. Hence, domaindomaindomain parking is an attractive proposition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Major Domain Parking Sites:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Google Adsense for Domain&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sedo.com&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Parked.com&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;amp; Many more&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4259934727469230685-3660251511527882384?l=b4udo.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/3660251511527882384'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/3660251511527882384'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://b4udo.blogspot.com/2009/10/domain-parking.html' title='domain parking'/><author><name>Sumi</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/07016493067862958669</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4259934727469230685.post-3147511010394481533</id><published>2009-10-07T12:38:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-10-07T12:47:01.171-07:00</updated><title type='text'>PPC-Pay Per Click</title><content type='html'>&lt;div style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);" class="componentheading"&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;adsense&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt; Google Adsense&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;AdSense is an advertisement application run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google beta tested a cost-per-action service, but discontinued it in October 2008 in favor of a DoubleClick offering (also owned by Google).[1]&lt;br /&gt;Overview&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Google uses its Internet search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted advertisement system may enroll through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the advertisements are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the advertisements is often relevant to the website.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating website. If the advertisements are included on a website that has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, AdSense will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes, also known as public service announcements (PSAs). (The Mediabot is different from the Googlebot, which maintains Google's search index.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many websites use AdSense to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small websites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and sales people. To fill a website with advertisements that are relevant to the topics discussed, webmasters implement a brief script on the websites' pages. Websites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense website.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some webmasters invest significant effort into maximizing their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:[citation needed]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; 1. They use a wide range of traffic-generating techniques, including but not limited to online advertising.&lt;br /&gt; 2. They build valuable content on their websites that attracts AdSense advertisements, which pay out the most when they are clicked.&lt;br /&gt; 3. They use text content on their websites that encourages visitors to click on advertisements. Note that Google prohibits webmasters from using phrases like "Click on my AdSense ads" to increase click rates. The phrases accepted are "Sponsored Links" and "Advertisements".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The source of all AdSense income is the AdWords program, which in turn has a complex pricing model based on a Vickrey second price auction. AdSense commands an advertiser to submit a sealed bid (i.e., a bid not observable by competitors). Additionally, for any given click received, advertisers only pay one bid increment above the second-highest bid.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] History&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The underlying technology behind AdSense was derived originally from WordNet, Simpli (a company started by the founder of Wordnet, George A. Miller), and a number of professors and graduate students from Brown University, including James A. Anderson, Jeff Stibel, and Steve Reiss.[2] A variation of this technology utilizing WordNet was developed by Oingo, a small search engine company based in Santa Monica founded in 1998 by Gilad Elbaz and Adam Weissman.[3][4] Oingo changed its name to Applied Semantics in 2001,[5] which was later acquired by Google in April 2003 for US$102 million.[6]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] Types&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] AdSense for Feeds&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In May 2005, Google announced a limited-participation beta version of AdSense for Feeds, a version of AdSense that runs on RSS and Atom feeds that have more than 100 active subscribers. According to the Official Google Blog, "advertisers have their ads placed in the most appropriate feed articles; publishers are paid for their original content; readers see relevant advertising—and in the long run, more quality feeds to choose from."[7]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;AdSense for Feeds works by inserting images into a feed. When the image is displayed by a RSS reader or Web browser, Google writes the advertising content into the image that it returns. The advertisement content is chosen based on the content of the feed surrounding the image. When the user clicks the image, he or she is redirected to the advertiser's website in the same way as regular AdSense advertisements.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;AdSense for Feeds remained in its beta state until August 15, 2008, when it became available to all AdSense users.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] AdSense for search&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A companion to the regular AdSense program, AdSense for search, allows website owners to place Google search boxes on their websites. When a user searches the Internet or the website with the search box, Google shares any advertising revenue it makes from those searches with the website owner. However the publisher is paid only if the advertisements on the page are clicked: AdSense does not pay publishers for mere searches.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] AdSense for mobile content&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;AdSense for mobile content allows publishers to generate earnings from their mobile websites using targeted Google advertisements. Just like AdSense for content, Google matches advertisements to the content of a website — in this case, a mobile website.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] AdSense for domains&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Adsense for domains allows advertisements to be placed on domain names that have not been developed. This offers domain name owners a way to monetize domain names that are otherwise dormant. Adsense for domains is currently being offered to some users, with plans to make it available to all in stages.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On December 12, 2008, TechCrunch reported that AdSense for Domains is available for all US publishers.[8]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] XHTML compatibility&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As of September 2007, the HTML code for the AdSense search box does not validate as XHTML, and does not follow modern principles of website design because of its use of&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; * non-standard end tags, such as &lt;/img&gt; and &lt;/input&gt;,&lt;br /&gt; * the attribute checked rather than checked="checked",&lt;br /&gt; * presentational attributes other than id, class, or style — for example, bgcolor and align,&lt;br /&gt; * a table structure for purely presentational (i.e., non-tabular) purposes,1 and&lt;br /&gt; * the font tag.2&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1: using a table structure for unintended purposes is strongly recommended against by the W3C[citation needed], but nevertheless does not cause a document to fail validation — there is currently no algorithmic method of determining whether a table is used "correctly" (for displaying tabular data or for displaying elements, that get proportionally wider or narrower when browser window resizes in width without active client side scripting).&lt;br /&gt;2: the font tag is deprecated but does not fail validation in any XHTML standard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Additionally, the AdSense advertisement units use the JavaScript method document.write(), which does not work correctly when rendered with the application/xhtml+xml MIME type. The units also use the iframe HTML tag, which is not validated correctly with the XHTML 1.0 Strict or XHTML 1.0 Transitional DOCTYPEs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The terms of the AdSense program forbid its affiliates from modifying the code, thus preventing these participants from having valid XHTML websites.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, a workaround has been found by creating a separate HTML webpage containing only the AdSense advertisement units, and then importing this page into an XHTML webpage with an object tag.[9] This workaround appears to be accepted by Google.[10]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] How AdSense works&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; * The webmaster inserts the AdSense JavaScript code into a webpage.&lt;br /&gt; * Each time this page is visited, the JavaScript code uses inlined JSON to display content fetched from Google's servers.&lt;br /&gt; * For contextual advertisements, Google's servers use a cache of the page to determine a set of high-value keywords. If keywords have been cached already, advertisements are served for those keywords based on the AdWords bidding system. (More details are described in the AdSense patent.)&lt;br /&gt; * For site-targeted advertisements, the advertiser chooses the page(s) on which to display advertisements, and pays based on cost per mille (CPM), or the price advertisers choose to pay for every thousand advertisements displayed.[11][12]&lt;br /&gt; * For referrals, Google adds money to the advertiser's account when visitors either download the referred software or subscribe to the referred service.[13] The referral program was retired in August 2008.[14]&lt;br /&gt; * Search advertisements are added to the list of results after the visitor performs a search.&lt;br /&gt; * Because the JavaScript is sent to the Web browser when the page is requested, it is possible for other website owners to copy the JavaScript code into their own webpages. To protect against this type of fraud, AdSense customers can specify the pages on which advertisements should be shown. AdSense then ignores clicks from pages other than those specified.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] Abuse&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some webmasters create websites tailored to lure searchers from Google and other engines onto their AdSense website to make money from clicks. These "zombie" websites often contain nothing but a large amount of interconnected, automated content (e.g., a directory with content from the Open Directory Project, or scraper websites relying on RSS feeds for content). Possibly the most popular form of such "AdSense farms" are splogs (spam blogs), which are centered around known high-paying keywords. Many of these websites use content from other websites, such as Wikipedia, to attract visitors. These and related approaches are considered to be search engine spam and can be reported to Google.[citation needed]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Made for AdSense (MFA) website or webpage has little or no content, but is filled with advertisements so that users have no choice but to click on advertisements. Such pages were tolerated in the past, but due to complaints, Google now disables such accounts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There have also been reports of Trojan horses engineered to produce counterfeit Google advertisements that are formatted looking like legitimate ones. The Trojan downloads itself onto an unsuspecting computer through a webpage and then replaces the original advertisements with its own set of malicious advertisements.[15]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;[edit] Criticism&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Due to concerns about click fraud, 'Google AdSense' has been criticized by some search engine optimization firms as a large source of what Google calls "invalid clicks", in which one company clicks on a rival's search engine advertisements to drive up the other company's costs.[16]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To help prevent click fraud, AdSense publishers can choose from a number of click-tracking programs.[citation needed] These programs display detailed information about the visitors who click on the AdSense advertisements. Publishers can use this to determine whether or not they have been a victim of click fraud. There are a number of commercial tracking scripts available for purchase.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The payment terms for webmasters have also been criticized.[17] Google withholds payment until an account reaches US$100,[18] but many micro content providers[citation needed] require a long time—years in some cases—to build up this much AdSense revenue. However, Google will pay all earned revenue greater than US$10 when an AdSense account is closed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many website owners complain that their AdSense accounts have been disabled just before they were supposed to receive their first paycheck from Google. Google claims accounts have been disabled due to click fraud.[citation needed]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Google came under fire when the official Google AdSense Blog showcased the French video website Imineo.com. This website violated Google's AdSense Program Policies by displaying AdSense alongside sexually explicit material. Typically, websites displaying AdSense have been banned from showing such content.[19] Some sites have been banned for distributing copyright material even when they hold the copyright themselves or are authorized by the copyright holder to distribute the material.[20]&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It has been reported that using both AdSense and AdWords may cause a website to pay Google a commission when the website advertises itself.[21&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OTHER&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Adbrite &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;h1&gt;Make money from your site traffic. Desktop PCs can be more powerful but notebook PCs are portable&lt;br /&gt; * - Decide how much approximately you want to spend&lt;br /&gt; * - Decide what you will be using the PC for. You won't need a particularly powerful system if you're only going to browse the Web and send e-mails&lt;br /&gt; * - Read some computer buying advice magazines such as What PC?, PC Advisor and Personal Computer World&lt;br /&gt; * - Talk to friends, relatives and colleagues about what make of PC they use, where they bought it and their experiences&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where To Buy From&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;High-street stores may seem the most obvious place for first-time PC buyers but although they do offer some advantages (such as being able to see and touch example PCs and get an idea of the size of the screen) they are not always good value and you may find yourself spending more than you need to.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Often the sales person will also try to sell you warranty packages. These may provide some peace of mind, including things like health checks and repairs, but if you look after your PC and keep your security software up-to-date, you will most likely never use the service and will have paid a lot of extra money for nothing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You could try small local computer shops who can often put together a PC package to suit your exact needs, though you may find the price a lot higher than the standard packages offered by high-street stores. For first-time buyers a standard package often seems far simpler than trying to figure out the specific types of components you need.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Buying online is often the best option; though obviously you need to find some way of getting on the Internet (on a friend's PC or at your local library) and then begin the process of searching for online stores and comparing packages and prices. As with any large purchase you make, you will want to be cautious and have all the facts in front of you before you make a decision.&lt;br /&gt;What to look for&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Often when reading about PC packages you will be confronted with a huge list of specifications which will mean nothing to you if you don't have much knowledge of computer hardware. Some companies may try to confuse you with technical details, hoping that by mentioning large enough numbers you will think the PC is better than it really is.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Computer specifications change all the time, and your needs will determine what size or speed components are appropriate for you. The following is a general guide with some tips on what to look for.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Desktop or Notebook&lt;/b&gt; - the type of PC you need will depend on how powerful you need your machine to be and whether you want to be able to do work on the move.&lt;br /&gt;Desktop PCs are usually more powerful than notebook/laptop PCs for the same price, but the latter have the advantage of being portable and taking up much less space.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Monitor&lt;/b&gt; - it is important to check this is mentioned as although this may seem like an essential part of a desktop PC system, some packages may not include one.&lt;br /&gt;TFT (Flat Panel) monitors are common nowadays because of how thin they are compared to the old bulky CRT monitors. When buying a monitor you want the highest resolution, which will give a more detailed and sharper picture. A resolution of 1280x1024 should be fine for most users. Response time is also important - the lower the number, the better.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Keyboard&lt;/b&gt; &amp;amp; &lt;b&gt;Mouse&lt;/b&gt; - all desktop PCs should include these and there is often little difference between the various models. One thing to note is that some have more than just the left and right buttons on the Mouse - they often also include a Wheel in the center which can be a useful addition. Nowadays you can also get wireless keyboards and mice. If you want to use a mouse with your notebook PC you may need to buy it separately, as many notebooks use a touch pad system instead of a mouse.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Tower&lt;/b&gt; - the shell of the desktop PC contains all the components which make your system work including the processor, memory and Hard Disk. You should check how many USB ports are included, as you will need one for each peripheral you connect such as scanners and printers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Processor&lt;/b&gt; - the heart of your PC, this is the engine that powers your computer and processes all the instructions it is given, therefore you want it to be as fast as possible. The higher the processor speed (in Ghz) the faster your PC should be. Dual-core technology now offers even greater speed. Examples are Intel Pentium or Celeron, and AMD Athlon or Sempron.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;RAM&lt;/b&gt; - the temporary memory the computer uses to do its calculations. The more RAM you have, the faster and more efficient your programs will run. Look for at least 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Hard Drive&lt;/b&gt; - where all your programs and data are stored. As usual, more is better. At least 100GB or more will be needed to store lots of music, Games &lt;a style="background: transparent url(http://files.adbrite.com/mb/images/green-double-underline-006600.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom; cursor: pointer; color: rgb(0, 102, 0); text-decoration: none; -moz-background-clip: border; -moz-background-origin: padding; -moz-background-inline-policy: continuous; margin-bottom: -2px; padding-bottom: 2px;" name="AdBriteInlineAd_games" id="AdBriteInlineAd_games" target="_top"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;or movie files. Hard disk space is relatively cheap, and there are also external drives available that you can plug in to add more memory.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Sound Card&lt;/b&gt; - most PCs should include decent enough sound for playing music or video, but you can opt for better quality sound cards such as the Creative Audigy series which will improve sound quality and performance in movies and demanding games.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;peakers&lt;/b&gt; - 2 normal desktop speakers should be fine for most users, but games players may want to invest in larger setups such as 5.1 (5 small Satellite speakers and 1 large Sub-Woofer to handle the bass sounds).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;CD/DVD-ROM Drive&lt;/b&gt; - plays CDs/DVDs including data discs, music CDs and film DVDs. The higher the speed, the faster files will be loaded from disc though it will depend on the maximum speed permitted by the disc itself. '16x', for example, means it can transfer data from the disc at 16 times the normal playing speed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Windows&lt;/b&gt; - Microsoft's operating system Windows is included with most PCs. Since 2001, Windows XP has been the version for home users but 2007 has seen the launch of its successor Windows Vista.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Software&lt;/b&gt; - some packages will include office suites, security programs, DVD creation, games and entertainment software.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Internet Access&lt;/b&gt; - many packages come with free Internet trials, but you can choose a different provider if you find a better deal. To access the Internet from home you will need to connect your PC to your phone line. There should be instructions with your PC how to do this. There are many different Internet packages available, and with some you will need to buy additional equipment. To learn more, contact an ISP(Internet Service Provider) or visit their web site.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt; &lt;b&gt;Wireless Internet&lt;/b&gt; - modern PCs often come with built-in wireless support, to allow you to connect to any wireless Internet networks within range. If not, wireless adapters can be bought separately. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;You can usually replace and upgrade your PC components in the future if you decide you need more memory or a faster graphics card, for example.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt; And you can always upgrade or buy new software if you find the included programs too limited for your needs.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4259934727469230685-1694551427636247837?l=b4udo.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/1694551427636247837'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/1694551427636247837'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://b4udo.blogspot.com/2009/10/buying-pctips.html' title='Buying A PCTips'/><author><name>Sumi</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/07016493067862958669</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4259934727469230685.post-268291716394721010</id><published>2009-10-07T12:15:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-10-07T12:25:01.244-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Keyboard Shortcuts</title><content type='html'>&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;i&gt;Windows key&lt;/i&gt; This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;computer &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: orange; font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; position: static;"&gt;&lt;span class="kLink" style="border-bottom: 1px solid orange; padding-bottom: 1px; color: orange ! important; font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; position: static; background-color: transparent;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 130%; color: rgb(0, 0, 255);"&gt;.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 130%;"&gt; It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don't search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2). Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3). Now switch to Word and simply minimize it. (Don't use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4). Now go back to the Windows Task Manager and see where WINWORD.EXE is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find Word. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.&lt;br /&gt;5). Minimize each application that you are currently not working on by clicking on the Minimize button &amp;amp; you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. Wallpapers: They slow your whole system down, so if you're willing to compromise, have a basic plain one instead!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Drivers: Update your hardware drivers as frequently as possible. New drivers tend to increase system speed especially in the case of graphics cards, their drivers are updated by the manufacturer very frequently!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Minimizing: If you want to use several programs at the same time then minimize those you are not using. This helps reduce the overload on RAM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Boot Faster: The 'starting Windows 95/98' message on startup can delay your booting for a couple of seconds. To get rid of this message go to c:\ and find the file Msdos.sys. Remove the Read-Only option. Next, open it in Notepad or any other text editor. Finally, go to the text 'Options' within the file and make the following changes: Add BootDelay=0. To make your booting even faster, set add Logo=0 to remove the Windows logo at startup.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Restart only Windows: When restarting your PC, hold down Shift to only restart Windows rather than the whole system which will only take a fraction of the time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Turn Off Animations: Go to Display Settings from the Control Panel and switch to the Effects Tab. Now turn off Show Windows Content While Dragging and Smooth Edges on Screen Fonts. This tip is also helpful with Windows XP because of the various fade/scroll effects.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. Faster Start-Menu Access: Go to the Start menu and select Run. Now type Regedit and hit Enter. The Registry Editor will appear on the screen. Now, open the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. You should see a MenuShowDelay value. If you don't then do the following: right click on a blank space in the right pane and select New\String. Change the name in the new value to MenuShowDelay. Now that we have the MenuShowDelay value, double click on it and enter 0 in the value data field. This sets the start menu delay to 0 milliseconds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;8. Resolutions: If you are willing to do anything for faster performance from your PC, then try lowering your display resolution. The lower it is, the faster your PC.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;9. Turn off Active Desktop: Go to your Display Properties and switch to the Web tab. Uncheck View My Active Desktop As a Web Page. Since the Active Desktop option under Windows 98 uses a lot of system resources, this option can have a dramatic effect on the speed of the whole system.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;10. Defragment Often: Windows 98's Defrag tool uses Application Acceleration from Intel which means that when you defragment your drive, data is physically arranged on the drive so that applications will load faster.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;11. Take your PC to Bed: Using the Advanced Power Management feature under Windows 98 gives you the option to use the sleep command. That way, you can send your PC to sleep instead of shutting it down and then restarting it. It's as simple as pressing a button and then pressing the same button to wake it up. You can tell Windows after how many minutes/hours of inactivity to automatically sleep the machine in the Advanced Power Management section of the Control Panel.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;12. Faster Internet Access: If you use the internet for reference and the sites you visit are rarely updated then try the following. In IE (the same can be done in Netscape) go to Tools, Internet Options. Next, click on Settings... in the Temporary Internet Files section. Finally, select Never for the first option and double the amount of storage space to use, click OK!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;13. Benchmarking: Benchmarking can be very useful when run frequently. It can tell you how your PC's components are performing and then compare them to other machines like yours. For example, when you overclock your PC, you want to know how much more speed you have and whether it is stable. All this and more can be discovered using benchmarking. An excellent piece of software for doing this job is SiSoft Sandra which can be found in the Downloads File Archive!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;14. Refresh the Taskbar without restarting: If you in some way change the taskbar, either in Regedit or elsewhere, you can refresh the task bar without restarting. Hold down Ctrl Alt Del, and double click on Explorer. Say Yes to close Explorer, but no to closing Windows. This will refresh the Taskbar and system tray.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;15. Quick CD Eject: Instead of pushing the button on your drive, right-click your CD drive letter in My Computer and click on Eject. This will also remove any icons that have become associated with the CD drive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;16. Start Up Programs: Windows can be slowed down when programs run on start up. To eliminate this, check your Start up folder. You can access it from the start menu: Start, Programs, Start Up. Another way to eliminate programs from loading even before Windows actually starts is by doing the following: Click on Start, then Run. Type msconfig. It will take quite a long time for this program to load, but when you finally see it on your screen, explore the different tabs. They all have to do with how quickly your PC boots, so select what you want, and uncheck what you don't want!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;17. Fonts: When Windows starts, it loads every single font in the Fonts folder. Therefore, the more fonts you have, the slower the booting process. To get rid of unwanted fonts, simply go to the Fonts folder under c:\windows and remove whatever you don't want. Fonts that have a red letter 'A' as their icon are system fonts, so don't delete them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;18. Stretching Wallpapers: Don't "stretch" your wallpaper in Windows 98 since it actually slows Windows down when you drag icons around on the desktop.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;19. RAM Matters: If you have less than 32MB then you should seriously think of upgrading it to at least 64MB. Windows runs much more smoothly with 64MB or higher and tends to use less hard disk space for virtual memory.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;20. Partitioning: A very nice little thing you can do to boost system performance. By partitioning your hard drive, splitting one physical drive into several logical ones, you can gain several advantages. 1. If you get a virus or you accidentally format a drive, not all will be lost. 2. By placing the swap file (Win386.swp) on a separate drive, The swap file will be less fragmented and thus, faster. 3. Place Windows on a separate drive and whenever you need to reinstall it, you rest assured that your data is safe on a separate drive. Partitioning can be done using a few programs such as FDisk which comes with DOS. However, FDisk formats everything on the hard disk before partitioning. Alternatively, you can use Partition Magic from Power Quest to partition your hard disk without losing your data.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4259934727469230685-6834361598951364365?l=b4udo.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/6834361598951364365'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/6834361598951364365'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://b4udo.blogspot.com/2009/10/top-20-tips-to-keep-your-system-faster.html' title='Top-20 Tips To Keep Your System Faster'/><author><name>Sumi</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/07016493067862958669</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4259934727469230685.post-5415669863728697668</id><published>2009-10-07T12:07:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-10-07T12:08:37.472-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Convert FAT- NTFS</title><content type='html'>To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, perform the following steps.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Click Start, click Programs, and then click Command Prompt. This allows the operating system to clear out the swap/paging file (may require a change in configuration for ultimate effect) and to reset it to the default size. This lets Defrag focus strictly on the necessary data on the hard disk, without having to stop and manage a huge swap file loaded with unneeded data.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Another approach to speeding up a defrag operation in Windows XP is to configure it to occur immediately upon startup. You can do so easily with a simple registry edit.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Note: Editing the Windows Registry is not without risk. Please save yourself some aggravation and back up your Windows Registry before you do any editing.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;With the disclaimer out of the way, follow these steps to start a defrag operation immediately upon startup:&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Go to:&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Right-click the RunOnce subkey and select New | String Value.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Name the value Defrag and press [Enter] twice.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Type Defrag.exe c: /f in the Value Data text box and click OK.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div&gt;The defrag operation will begin when you type your password and press [Enter]. (Keep in mind that values added to the RunOnce key are removed immediately after the command has been run.)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/4259934727469230685-3133427054193579849?l=b4udo.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/3133427054193579849'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/4259934727469230685/posts/default/3133427054193579849'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://b4udo.blogspot.com/2009/10/tips-to-speed-up-defrag-operations-in.html' title='Tips to speed up defrag operations in Windows XP'/><author><name>Sumi</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/07016493067862958669</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author></entry></feed>
